Karakalpakstan. Human Rights Defender Saadatdin Reimov sentenced

According to reports from Nukus, on Monday, December 19, Karakalpak human rights activist Saadatdin Reimov was sentenced to 4 years in prison. The activist was arrested after the unrest on July 1-2. The details of the charge are unknown. According to unconfirmed reports, the verdict was passed under Article 159 part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which provides for punishment for calls for an illegal change in the state system, as well as for the production, storage and distribution of materials of corresponding content.

In the meantime, from Bukhara, reports are being made of ongoing interrogations in court of witnesses in the case of 22 Karakalpaks accused in connection with the same events. According to observers, the process will be completed next year.
